Mongchon Museum of History, opened in January 1992, houses the best-known relics & remains of the Baekje Dynasty including the Han River area to illuminate Seoul City, the capital for over 2,000 years.

Mongchon Museum of History is located on the way to Mongchontoseong Earthen Fortification from the Gate North 2 of Olympic Park, and is a place where the best-known relics & remains of the Baekje culture can be seen at one time. As most people would know, Mongchontoseong Earthen Fortification was one of the major fortresses of Baekje during the Hanseong Era, and through 6 rounds of thorough investigations from 1983 to 1989, a vast number of relics including the settlement site, storage pits and earthenware were discovered.

The place containing the traces of our ancestors uncovered during that time is Mongchon Museum of History. On entrance, the eyes are enticed by the settlement site of the Hanseong Baekje Era which dominated the Han River areas including Amsa-dong, Myeongil-dong, Yeaksam-dong etc. as well as the models of ancient tombs.

In the center of the Mongchon Museum of History where radiates Baekje Era’s flair, a Mongchontoseong Earthen Fortification model is standing firm surrounded by earthenware, whetstones, net sinkers etc. revealing the images of life in those times.

Moreover, although just models, the stone animals excavated in Gongju & Buyeo, as well as the Baekje relics that went to Japan such as the various ornaments, Gilt-bronze shoes, Pensive Bodhisattva, Seven Branched Sword etc, can be observed everywhere.

Exhibition Hall of Baekje Settlement Site is the perfectly preserved ancient housing site of the Baekje Era discovered in Mongchontoseong Earthen Fortification. With the exterior of a settlement site, you can get the feeling of being back to the Hanseong Baekje Era.

This place invites visitors to the splendid history and culture of the Baekje period by displaying various models of relics & remains such as old residential area, a complex of Baekje tombs, and Mongchontoseong Earthen Fortification. Especially Mongchontoseong Earthen Fortification is considered as one of the most important relics of Hanam Wiryeseong, where is assumed as an early capital of Baekje. Therefore the location of the museum teaches a living education of history a great deal.
